Cyclist killed in Carrier Parkway collision

A twenty-four-year-old Garland woman was killed in a collision that occurred Saturday afternoon around around 6:15 pm at the intersection of Hill Street and Carrier Parkway.

Police said Mayra Ruiz was riding a bicycle westbound on Hill Street and had picked up speed while going downhill. She was unable to stop the bicycle and entered the intersection against a red light, colliding with the side of a pick-up truck that had just entered the intersection.

Ruiz was taken by ambulance to Methodist Dallas Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. No one in the pickup was injured.

This is the 7th traffic fatality in Grand Prairie this year.
