Arson Investigators, Police and ATF investigating fatal fire on Hastings Drive

Grand Prairie Police, Grand Prairie Fire Department Arson Investigators and investigators with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms are investigating a Friday morning fatal fire in the 2900 block of Hasting Drive.

At about 10:20 am, Grand Prairie Police Department responded to a disturbance at a nail salon in the 5100 block of Magna Carta.

When officers arrived, they were informed a male suspect had entered the salon with a pistol and began striking at least one female employee with the handgun. The suspect also attempted to start the salon on fire.

A Good Samaritan, with a concealed handgun license, heard the disturbance and intervened by detaining the suspect at gunpoint until police arrived to take him into custody.

The female victim was transported to a local trauma center and is expected to be released.

Around 10:35 am, while police were investigating the incident at the nail salon, Grand Prairie Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire in the 2900 block of Hastings Drive.

Assistant Fire Chief C. J. Grippin said while battling the blaze, firefighters discovered the body of one person.

Police determined the home related to the suspect taken into custody at the nail salon.

Police said the investigation is ongoing but are not currently searching for any additional suspects.

Police identified the suspect arrested as: Bill Son Nguyen, 47. Nguyen has been charged with Arson, Aggravated Assault and Murder.

The identify of the deceased person has not been released.
