Head-on collision on South Belt Line kills Grand Prairie teen

Grand Prairie police are investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred at about 7:00 PM Thursday in the 3700 block of South Belt Line Rd (FM 1382).

John Bamibe, 19, of Grand Prairie, was driving a 2000 Acura TL northbound on Belt Line when he drifted across the center stripes and into southbound traffic, colliding head-on with a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro. Bamibe was not wearing a seat belt and had to be extricated from the wreckage by firefighters.

He was taken by ambulance to Medical City Arlington where he died at 10:20 PM.

The driver of the Camaro, a 22 year old Grand Prairie resident, suffered serious injuries and was also taken to Medical City Arlington in serious condition. His 19 year old passenger was also taken to Medical City Arlington in stable condition.

A 2014 Nissan Pathfinder that was also southbound on Belt Line was struck. Two passengers in that vehicle, a 36 year old Female and a 14 year old Female, were taken by ambulance to Methodist Dallas Medical Center in stable condition.

At this time it is not known why Bamibe crossed into oncoming traffic. This is the 5th traffic fatality in Grand Prairie this year.
