Rather than hosting a normal ribbon cutting ceremony, the staff at the Young Women’s Leadership Academy (YWLA) at Arnold utilized a drone to fly through the ribbon to celebrate the grand opening of its new Technology Lab.

Through a generous grant from Capital One, Heart of America’s team worked with the YWLA staff and community to transform an area within the facility into a state-of-the-art technology center. The future Tech Lab will foster collaborative learning through a group study area, a multi-media center, new instructional tables and chairs, a 3D printer station and mobile instructor desk. YWLA’s Lab will provide on-demand access to software and tools, empowering students to develop the skills needed to succeed in an increasingly digital economy.

The Young Women’s Leadership Academy at Arnold is part of the Young Women’s Preparatory Network, a nonprofit organization that partners with public school districts to create and support all-girl schools. The schools have a foundation of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) curriculum with a focus on the pillars of leadership, college readiness, and health and wellness.

Capital One is committed to supporting organizations including Heart of America that create a positive impact in local communities, including the greater Dallas-Fort Worth area. Capital One partners with Heart of America to put technology and books into the hands of children in low-income communities and to create innovative technology labs and libraries in their schools.

The Heart of America Foundation®, a national nonprofit headquartered in the Washington, D.C. Metro area, transforms spaces into modern learning environments so that students and communities can learn and grow. Through the its educational space transformation program, the Heart of America revitalizes technology labs, school libraries, gyms and other educational spaces in under-resourced communities into vital and vibrant centers of learning.

Young Women’s Preparatory Network’s mission is to support single-gender, college-preparatory, public education in Texas and beyond, giving young women the academic and leadership skills to achieve success in college and in life.
