On Wednesday, the Grand Prairie ISD Career and Technical Education (CTE) Department held a Signing Day for CTE students. Unlike traditional athletic or academic signings, the CTE students signed for paid and unpaid internships in a variety of career paths with the District’s more than 60 corporate partners.

Kristi Canon, Coordinator of Career & Technical Education, said district wide over 400 students were placed into internship positions.

She said at Wednesday’s event, Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Irving signed 109 students for various health care positions. She added that through internships 23 graduating seniors will receive their phlebotomy technician and 3 their pharmacy technician certifications.

Canon said the district plans on a larger event next year with more business partners participating, inviting family members to take part and allowing younger students to attend to see what is available.
