Police announce arrest of GPISD teacher for improper relationship with student

Grand Prairie police announced today that a Grand Prairie High School teacher has been arrested and charged with Improper Relationship Between Educator and Student and Aggravated Sexual Assault.

Police spokesman Detective Lyle Gensler said Derek Fuller, an Algebra I teacher, was arrested on May 18. He is currently being held at the Grand Prairie Detention Center with a $125,000.

In a statement, Grand Prairie ISD said administrators received information late on the afternoon of January 26, 2017 indicating Fuller was involved in a potential impropriety.

He was immediately removed from the classroom the next day and relieved of all duties.

Law enforcement was immediately notified and an investigation was opened that resulted in Fuller’s arrest.

“This kind of conduct is outrageous and will not be tolerated,” Dr. Susan Hull, Grand Prairie ISD Superintendent said in a statement. “The teacher-student relationship is sacred. It reflects a vow from teachers to parents that their children are safe–as safe as they would be at home. When a teacher in Grand Prairie ISD breaks that vow, he or she will be dealt with quickly and aggressively. I encourage law enforcement to pursue all available action.”

Detective Gensler said this is still a very active case the department continues to investigate.
