Lone Star Park opens 2017 Thoroughbred Racing season

Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie celebrated its 20th anniversary as live Thoroughbred racing opened Thursday to start an event packed weekend with exciting racing, live music, fan giveaways and more.

Opening Weekend Line-Up:

  • Thursday, April 20, gates open early at 4:30 p.m. with opening ceremonies set to get underway at approximately 6:00 p.m. The live racing action kicks off at 6:35 p.m. with the $50,000 Premiere Stakes, the traditional first race of the season. The Premiere is for Texas-bred, 3-yr-olds & up at 6 ½ furlongs.
  • Friday, April 21, features nine live Thoroughbred races. “Party at the Park” returns featuring live music by TOP with $2 beer specials in our Courtyard of Champions from
    7 to 10 p.m. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. First race post time is 6:35 p.m.
  • Saturday, April 22, gates open at 4 p.m. First race post time is 5 p.m. with nine live Thoroughbred races on the card. Fans can enjoy live music in the Courtyard of Champions by Cuvee from 5 to 9 p.m.
  • Sunday, April 23, features nine live Thoroughbred races highlighted by the $50,000 Wayne Hanks Memorial Stakes. Gates open at 1:30 p.m. First race post time is 2:35 p.m. Sunday also marks the return of our Sunday Discounts. Valid every Sunday through July 30.

Sunday Discounts
Senior Citizens’ Discount–Seniors 62 years or older with a valid ID will receive One (1) Free General Admission every Sunday during the 2017 Thoroughbred Season.

Military Discount–Present a valid military ID on Sundays during the 2017 Thoroughbred Season and receive One (1) Free General Admission.

Pepsi Can Promotion–Bring any Pepsi Can on any Sunday during the 2017 Thoroughbred Season and receive One (1) Free General Admission and One (1) Free Large Pepsi.*
*Valid for live racing only in the Grandstand.

The 50-date Thoroughbred Season will run 15 weeks beginning Thursday, April 20 and continue through Sunday, July 30. Live racing will be held on Friday nights at 6:35 p.m.; Saturday nights at 5:00 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 2:35 p.m. Live racing will also be held on select Thursdays, April 20, June 15 and July 27, at 6:35 p.m. All three Triple Crown dates—Saturday’s, May 5, 20 and June 10 will start at 1:35 p.m. Special Holiday programs scheduled are Memorial Day, May 29, at 2:35 p.m.; Monday, July 3, and Tuesday, July 4, will begin at 5:00 p.m. All times CDT.
