Two-time state Golden Gloves champion to turn pro

Joel Ambriz, two-time Texas Golden Gloves champion in the 123 pound division announced he is turning professional in May.

The twenty-one year old Grand Prairie resident has been boxing for sixteen years, all with the same coach, Eddie Rangel with the No Excuses Boxing Gym.

Along with his two state championships, Ambriz is also an eight time regional champion as an armature.

Ambriz, who dreamed of being a professional ever since he began boxing, said, “I’m in shape, I’m ready, it’s my time to step up.”

Training everyday, Ambriz said he runs, does skill drills and along with sparing two days a week to get ready for his first professional fight. He will soon begin searching for an opponent for that first pro fight.

A 2014 Dubiski Career High School graduate, Ambriz is currently working in the information technology field.

“The best boxer that I have had the privilege to work with,” Coach Rangel said of his boxer. “Hard worker and most humble.”
