Shattered Dreams mock crash shows students horrors of drinking and driving
Students at South Grand Prairie High School today got to witness the tragic results of drinking and driving with a mock car crash staged on the school’s parking lot.
Shattered Dreams is an annual event hosted by the Grand Prairie Police Department with help from the Grand Prairie Fire Department, CareFlite, the Grand Prairie ISD and a local funeral home.
With student actors playing the roles of victims, the student body viewed the staged crash that killed a fellow student as well as a video of scenes in the emergency room and the intoxicated driver being booked into jail.
A select few students, chosen by winning an essay contest, will stay the night at a police facility to listen to several guest speakers talk about tragic events they have endured due to texting and driving and/or drinking and driving. They return to school on Friday where a memorial service will be held for the student who died in the mock crash.
