Fine Arts Academy finalist in fourteen Dallas Summer Musical High School Musical Theatre Awards

The Dallas Summer Musicals announced finalist in its sixth annual High School Musical Theatre Award to be awarded on May 18. The Grand Prairie Fine Arts Academy placed finalist in fourteen categories.

Dallas Summer Musicals is a nonprofit organization committed to education, which led to the awards program patterned after Broadway’s Tony Awards®. DSM High School Musical Theatre Awards brings stars, community celebrities, show business veterans and Dallas leaders together for an evening of celebration. The program puts the spotlight on the educational achievements of high school students and their high school musical theatre programs.

In five years, the DSM High School Musical Theatre Awards has become the second largest program in the country. It has grown from 33 high schools to 67 high schools presenting 70 productions. Each school’s performance is evaluated by a panel of judges, who are working professionals in the arts, entertainment, acting, music, dance, theatre education, arts administration, talent management and production design.

The objective of the DSM High School Musical Theatre Awards program is to create visibility for high school arts programs and generate an event that builds community while celebrating excellent work by teachers and students.

The schools are judged on how well they are meeting or exceeding its potential. Judges are not competing schools against each other, but rather are challenging schools to create the best possible work they can in their unique circumstances.
